1. A Centre
A Centre is a formal process during which group and individual simulations are used to determine an individual's ability, skills and training needs. The individual's performance during the simulations is evaluated against a number of competencies regarded as being of critical importance for effective job performance.
It is therefore an approach to obtain an indication of an individual’s competence to perform at a target job level. The assessment focuses on the individual’s behaviour during simulations (exercises). The set of simulations capture the major aspects of the job.
Features of a Centre:
- Several individuals participate in the Centre at the same time.
- Individuals are observed by a team of observers.
- Assessment is by a combination of methods (interactive versus paper, strategic versus day-to-day, individual versus group simulations)
- The Centre information obtained from the assessments is brought together under the headings of the competencies crucial for high performance in the target job level.
- The competencies are behavioural competencies.
2. Simulation
A simulation is an exercise simulating a typical situation faced by people in the target job. It requires the same outputs as the real job situation. To perform effectively during a simulation, the candidate/delegate will have to use a selection of competencies.
3. Assessment Centres
Assessment Centres are used to assess various competencies of candidates who applied for a specific position or entry into an organisation, succession pool, institution, etc.
4. Development Centres
Development Centres are used to identify a delegate’s current unique manager-leader areas of strength and areas needing further development. A debriefing session dealing with the various techniques used during the Development Centre is held at the end of the Centre. Delegates attending a Development Centre receive feedback about their performance after the centre.
5. Learning Centres
Learning Centres are Development Centres; delegates attending Learning Centres attend a debriefing session after each technique used. Theoretical inputs are also given during the debriefing sessions.
6. Collaborative Centres
A Collaborative Centre is a specific variation of a Development Centre. Collaborative Centres are based on the principles of experiential learning and continuous feedback, using Centre Methodology.
7. Functional Centres
Functional Centres use Centre Methodology in a functional context. The purpose of a Functional Centre can either be selection OR development. An example of a Functional Centre is our Sales Development Centre
