A Group Meeting is an interactive exercise simulating a typical situation where a manager calls a meeting to discuss and solve a mutual work related problem/challenge. The manager calls the meeting delegates to his/her office to determine the reason for the problem and to generate solutions that will ensure the problem is solved permanently.
The Assessment or Development Centre candidate/delegate is put in the position of the manager that has to facilitate the meeting between him/herself and role-players, playing the role of the meeting delegates.
Purpose:
The purpose of a Group Meeting exercise is to determine a candidate's/delegate's current ability to facilitate a group meeting between him/herself and subordinates/colleagues to identify a creative strategy and action plan in response to a mutual challenge, in such a way that all parties are committed to the solution.
Uses:
A Group Meeting forms part of either an Assessment Centre or a Development Centre:
The Objectives of an Assessment Centre are:
- To select the most suitable candidate(s) for a position or management-leadership level in an organisation.
- To determine candidate(s) managerial-leadership potential for various positions/levels.
The Objectives of a Development Centre are:
- To identify manager-leader development needs.
- To do management development planning.
Duration:
The normal duration for administering a Group Meeting is one hour. The normal duration for scoring and interpreting a Group Meeting is one hour.
